Hrachya Avanesyan was born in Gumri, Armenia in 1986. He started to play the violin at the age of six. From 1993 to 2003 he studied at the Tchaikovsky School in Yerevan with Professor Krtchyan. A member of the "Young Virtuosos" of Armenia, he has performed throughout Europe, in Iran, Lebanon, the United States, Canada, Russia, Australia and China. The recipient of a grant from the Vladimir Spivakov foundation in 2000, and from the Konstantin Orbelyan Fund in 2003, he won the Geradmer competition that same year. In September 2003, he entered the Brussels Royal Conservatoire to study in the class of Igor Oistrakh, and has performed regularly in concert, parricularly under the baton of Loris Tjegnavoryan, Emin Khachaturyan and Joji Hattori. In 2004, he won the Henry Koch competition in Liège. In 2005, he received the gold medal in European Competition for Young Soloists in Luxembourg, and in 2006, he won the Yehudi Menuhin competition in France as well as the EMCY special prize. In 2008 he won the Carl Nielsen competition. Since September 2006, he has attended master classes at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel with Augustin Dumay. He plays on a Gagliano on loan from the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel. He has received a scholarship from Belgacom
