Maxim Rysanov (viola) was born in Ukraine in 1978 and studied at the Central Special School of Music in Moscow and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He is the winner of several major international awards, including prizes at the 2003 Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition, the Valentino Bucchi International Viola Competition, the Carmel International Chamber Music Competition, the Haverhill Symphonia Soloist Competition, as well as the Guildhall Gold Medal.
He has played as a soloist and chamber musician in the UK and internationally and has been a guest at many prestigious festivals. In the UK he has given solo performances at the Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall, St. John’s Smith Square and other venues. He has also appeared on BBC Radio 3, British national TV, the BBC World Service, Bulgarian National Radio and TV, Dutch National Radio, Ukrainian and Russian Radio and TV. He is also a member of the "ASCH" String Trio.
As well as playing the viola Maxim is also a talented conductor. After a year as a Fellow Conductor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama he became Young Conductor in Association with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
