ALFREDO PERL has established himself in recent years as one of the leading pianists of his generation. Chilean by birth, he studied with Carlos Botto in Santiago, Günter Ludwig in Cologne and Maria Curcio in London, and has now settled in Europe. Since his first public performance at the age of nine, he has given numerous concerts throughout the world and has been a prize-winner at major competitions.
Between October 1996 and January 1997 Perl performed the complete Beethoven Sonata Cycle in London at the Wigmore Hall to huge public critical acclaim. He also enjoyed a similar success performing the cycle in Santiago and Moscow. The completion of the Wigmore Hall series coincided with the UK release by BMG Arte Nova of his Beethoven Sonata cycle with the Diabelli Variations. Perl has been said to play Beethoven "with sparkling freshness, extraordinary tenderness and unaffected brilliance. He demonstrates that, even in these prosaic times, the great tradition of Beethoven playing lives on." (Joachim Kaiser of the Süddeutsche Zeitung). Other recordings on this label include a solo recording of Fantasias by Schumann, Liszt and Busoni, and a number of chamber music recordings including the Brahms Sonatas for piano and clarinet with Ralph Manno and the complete Sonatas for piano and cello by Beethoven with Guido Schiefen. He also recorded the Grieg Piano Concerto and Szymanowski's Symphonie Concertante.

Alfredo Perl made his debut in the International Piano Series at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in 1992, a series to which he returned in 1994, closely followed by his first recital at the Wigmore Hall. Other UK recital appearances have included performances at BBC Manchester, BBC Scotland, Bridgewater Hall and St. John's Smith Square Concert Series. Perl has performed world-wide at major venues such as the London Barbican, Rudolfinum Prague, Munich Herkulessaal, Izumi Hall Osaka, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, National Arts Centre in Ottawa and the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire.

In Spring 1997 Perl gave a series of recitals promoted by the Hypo-Kulturstiftung, marking the first time for this highly prestigious German arts foundation to be actively involved in the field of Classical Music. During the tour Perl appeared in Germany's main cultural centres: Berlin Schauspielhaus, Hamburg Musikhalle, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Dusseldorf Tonhalle, Frankfurt Alte Oper and Munich Prinzregententheater.

A remarkably versatile performer, Perl has played with orchestras including the London Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, Hague Residentie, Florida Philharmonic and Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestras. In September 1997 he returned to London to make his BBC Prom debut at the Royal Albert Hall playing Mozart with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and Yan Pascal Tortelier and was immediately re-invited to perform with the orchestra in the same season at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester with Mark Elder. Future orchestral engagements include concerts with the Mozarteum Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and a tour of Australia with the Adelaide and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras. Future recitals include performances at the Wigmore Hall, Sydney Town Hall, Schwetzinger Festspiele, Kissinger Music Festival and two Beethoven Sonata Cycles in Munich and Dortmund.

"What makes his performances special is the true artist's gift of making memorable things happen at the keyboard while apparently playing the music quite straight." The Sunday Telegraph
