KASSANDRA DIMOPOULOU
Kassandra Dimopoulou was born in Thessaloniki. Her music carrier started very early and developed fast, ascending to international fame especially after her participation in the live TV broadcast of Verdi's opera Rigoletto, next to Placido Domingo (Rigoletto a Mantova by Rada Film Productions, 2010). The english magazine Opera Now listed Kassandra Dimopoulou as one of the most promising opera singers of the future.
Kassandra's exceptional voice and her phenomenal stage presence brought her collaborations with some of the greatest artists and companies of our times, such as the French choreographer Maurice Bejart, the conductor Zubin Mehta, the Catalan Theater Group La Fura dels Baus, a.o and her activities have been supported by major sponsors, among them Rolex Hellas.
Her voice expands over a great repertoire and includes roles in some of the most famous operas, such as Carmen, Otello, Aida, Rigoletto, Don Giovanni, a.o. She has sung in many opera houses, among them Staatsoper Stuttgart, Teatro Real Madrid, National Theater Luxemburg, Festival Aix-en-Provence, Festival Mozart Toujours in Salzburg, Thessaloniki and Athens Concert Hall, Teatro Cilea Reggio Calabria, Knoxville Opera and with many orchestras such as RAI Torino, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Athens and Thessaloniki National Orchestra, Orchestra of Coulors, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestra of the Bolsoi Theater Minsk, St Paul's Sinfonia, a.o.
She has won the prize of Best Newcomer Artist from the Greek Critic's Association in Athens, the Public's Prize at the International Belcanto Competition in Rossini Festival in Bad-Wildbad, the international scholarship from the Wagner Institute in Bielefeld and was nominated by the Greek magazine Life and Style for the Woman of the Year award in the category International Greek Woman.
Kassandra studied music first in Greece and completed her undergraduate music studies at the Music Academies of Detmold and Stuttgart (Germany). She also studied Contemporary Dance and Physical Theatre in Bern (CH). She is currently doing a Master in Arts at the Royal Academy of Music, supported by a scholarship from the Leventis Foundation, the Athena Scholarship and the Newton Scholarship.
She is a founding member of the company Skull of Yorick Productions, who specialize in performances, which are revolutionary in orchestration and stage direction. So far, she has directed 2 baroque operas, La Serva Padrona and Antigone. The latter was presented in the Interational Festival of Ancient Drama at Curium Theatre in Cyprus.
